My Story

I began my theater journey by taking dance lessons with a local studio in San Diego called Infinity Dance and Performing Arts. There, I gained access to great opportunities such as performing in a variety of musicals and dance recitals, partaking in Disney Dance the Magic parades at the Disneyland park located in southern California, and participating in dance competitions. During my time at the studio, I built life long connections and surrounded myself with a supportive and caring dance family. Unfortunately, my studio was shut down in 2021 due to financial issues caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. This forced me to change paths and consider alternate performing outlets.

I began to focus solely on acting, as I really loved the emotional and storytelling aspects of that art form. During my time in high school, I took part in a variety of shows both at my all girls Catholic school–the Academy of Our Lady of Peace–and our brother school–St. Augustine High School. It was there that I truly discovered how much I loved to act, and ultimately decided that I wanted to go to college for acting. Previously, I had been torn between pursuing theater or marine biology, as I was a very STEM oriented person. While at times I do miss studying marine life, I know I made the right choice in attending Emerson College’s theater and performance program, as acting fulfills me in a way that marine biology cannot. However, I one day hope to return to studying marine biology, and possibly attend another college to receive a degree in that discipline.

During my freshman year of college, I have experimented with other theater related careers outside of acting. For instance, I served as the assistant stage manager in a student production called Jamie has a Bomb. Then, at the end of the year, I was a production assistant on the EVVYS–an entirely student run awards show that takes place at Emerson College. The show gives out awards for a variety of student art pieces from journal articles to plays, and is the largest student run awards show in the nation. Through both of these experiences I gained a more well-rounded understanding of theater, and have learned how to efficiently and effectively run a backstage area. I also now have a better understanding of how to facilitate effective communication between multiple divisions and groups of people. Looking forward, I hope to continue to experiment with new roles and positions in the theater, and I am interested to see where these new opportunities will lead me in the future.
